Indrek Jets is defending his doctoral thesis „The Battle Serpents. 9th-11th Century Scandinavian Art Styles on Estonian Archaeological Finds“ on Monday, 2 September at 3pm in Tallinn University Institute of History (Rüütli 10).

The thesis gathers and presents all the data about the 9th - 11th century Estonian archeological findings with Scandinavian styled decor, describing and analyzing the ornaments of them. The thesis also tries to interpret the role of such items and ornaments in this culture and society, as well as the historical background of the spread of this cultural phenomenon.

Indrek Jets’ doctoral thesis was supervised by Tallinn University docent Kersti Markus and Tallinn University senior research fellow Marika Mägi. The opponents are the senior research fellow of Estonian Literary Museum, Tõnno Jonuks and research fellow of Estonian History Museum, Mati Mandel.
