Study Allowances
Full-time students have the right to apply for a needs-based study allowance which is designed to support students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds in terms of their access to higher education, success in studies and completion of a study programme with a nominal duration. We strongly advise holders of the Temporary Residence permit not to apply for a needs-based study allowance as applying will be in conflict with the information provided for being eligible for a TRP. Please contact by e-mail: oppetoetused@rtk.ee
Students can apply for a need-based special allowance if their application for a needs-based study allowance was rejected in the state portal for the reason that their earlier income exceeded the limit established for the granting of the allowance but the income of the applicant has recently decreased. To receive a special need-based allowance, a student should submit an application in 脮IS.

| Needs-based study allowance | Why is it not advised for holders of the D-visa or Temporary Residence Permit for Studies to apply for a needs-based study allowance? | When applying for a D-visa or Temporary Residence Permit for Studies, you confirm that you have sufficient financial means of subsistence for your stay in Estonia. By applying for a needs-based study allowance, you need to prove the opposite - that you do not have sufficient means of subsistence and need additional support. Therefore, applying for a needs-based study allowance directly contradicts the terms of your D-visa or Temporary Residence Permit for Studies and getting the needs-based study allowance may result in your D-visa or TRP being revoked. |
