BFM alumna Nora Särak`s thesis “To Light" has been selected for international competition in Tampere Film Festival!
The documentary about Estonians living in Pechory has already received many awards. The film started its journey to success at the Sleepwalkers short film festival, where it first won the national competition programme and afterward was declared the overall winner of the festival.
On January 21st, Cultural Endowment of Estonia presented their annual prizes for acts of 2015 at Paide Cultural Centre. Nora Särak won the prize for best documentary”. Särak is the first BFM student to receive such an award for her thesis.
To Light is a poetic film about a mother and son who decided to stay behind when the Estonian town Pechora became the Russian town Pechora. After 70 years there is hardly anything Estonian left in the town. Linda and Mart Kallas try to maintain contact with their homeland but this is no cure for loneliness.
