The International Conference „Russia and the Baltic Region on 18-20 Century“ begins on Monday, 26 August at 11:30 in Tallinn University Institute of History (Rüütli 6).

Estonian and Russian researchers will discuss the events of 18 - 20 century during the conference. The focus will be on historical memory, the role of Baltic Germans and Estonians in the culture and politics of the Russian Empire, Russian Orthodox in Estonia, relationship with the Soviet Union from 1920 to 1940, the collapse of the Soviet Union, etc.

This is the third Estonian-Russian history conference after the restoration of independence in Estonia: The first one took place in Tallinn on 2009 and the second one in Moscow in 2010. The goal of the conference is to continue the discussion on the problems and issues in the historical relationship between Russia and the Baltic states.

The topics covered in the conference are definitely of interest to the wider public.
