The next public lecture of Studia Generalia entitled "Social Imaginaries of
Technologies" will be delivered by Professor Robin Mansell, London School
of Economics and Political Science, UK. The lecture will take place in the
auditorium M-218 (TU Mare building, Uus-Sadama 5) on Thursday, November 3
at 16:00.Professor Mansell's lecture will look at the future of
contemporary communication systems. Conflicting social imaginaries in the
Internet Age have major implications for governance of the modern
communication system. A critical systems analysis shows these conflicts are
at the heart of modern challenges related to media policy and
telecommunications regulation. Analysing such conflicts and paradoxes
associated with digital information and the increasing complexity of the
technological system offers insight into adaptive actions, actions
suggesting new approaches to policy and governance in the interests of the
鈥榞ood society鈥. The lecture will focus on selected paradoxes and
challenges and will discuss the related regulative actions to arrive at
better forms media and the Internet services and technologies.Robin Mansell
