The first public lecture of Studia Generalia on the development of
interactive Multi-Sensory Environments (iMUSE) will be delivered by
professor Philip Ellis. The lecture will take place in the auditorium M218
(TU Mare building, Uus-Sadama 5) on 12 February at 16:00.Professor Ellis
will discuss the background factors of iMUSE, its philosophy and
application. Many videos will illustrate the presentation which will
demonstrate the results of iMUSE when working with disabled children and
adults and the elderly.Professor Ellis's research is focused on developing
therapies for children with special needs (including autism), and the
elderly in residential homes, sheltered accommodation and day care. Since
2005 he has been working on developing interactive Multi-Sensory
Environments for the elderly in long-term care, to develop new interfaces
to give control to elderly, frail and mentally infirm people. Professor
Ellis has been involved with establishing iMUSE rooms in special schools,
specialist institutions for autism and day care centres. His work has also
involved transferring the methodology to them to enable them to use the
techniques that have been developed, as well as the technology that goes
with it.
