General description of the position

The School of Humanities in Tallinn University is seeking a linguist to lead a research group specializing in Estonian Sign Language. This is a fully funded position with guaranteed salary and benefits for up to 3 years with renewal opportunities based on performance.

Responsibilities:

  • establish, lead and manage a research group focused on the study of Estonian sign language;
  • conduct research and publish on Estonian sign language;
  • collaborate with other faculty members, researchers, and experts in the field, contribute to the university's academic and research activities;
  • mentor and guide PhD students and researchers in their research endeavors on Estonian sign language;
  • establish and foster relationships with relevant stakeholders in the Estonian sign language community;
  • prepare applications for research funding through grant applications and external sources.

Requirements for the candidate (incl. professional experience requirements): The candidate must meet the requirements for the research fellow position, listed in the Annex 5 of the Employment Relations Rules of Tallinn University.

  • applicants must have received the PhD in linguistics or a closely related field with a specialization in sign language linguistics;
  • have a demonstrated track record of research in the field of Estonian Sign Language or a related sign language or in general linguistics;
  • excellent communication and collaboration skills;
  • fluency in English is required, and knowledge of Estonian and Estonian Sign language would be an advantage;
  • willingness to work in Estonia and actively engage with the Estonian sign language community.
