This autumn, 72 new law students have commenced their studies at the in Helsinki. A total of 167 Tallinn University students are now studying at the Helsinki branch.

While most students are Finnish, the number also includes Estonians living in Finland. The lectures are delivered by members of the Tallinn University teaching staff and visiting lecturers from the University of Helsinki.

The TU Law School opened a branch in Helsinki in 2012. Because half of the Tallinn University students studying under the Bachelor’s level law programme in English at the university in Tallinn were citizens of Finland, is was appropriate that a study group should be opened in Helsinki also.

Professor Rein Müllerson, President of the Tallinn University Law School, said: "Expanding studies in English was a result of internationalisation of higher education and the increasingly closer cooperation between the Tallinn and Helsinki universities. In order to provide better learning opportunities for people interested in law studies, we commenced teaching in Helsinki as well as in Tallinn. We have customized our study programmes according to the needs of the target group – for example, we have added a module of Finnish law."
