Academic quarter is a tradition according to which lectures, seminars and other study activities start a quarter-hour past the full hour.
Academic ceremonies start with the procession by which the Rector, Vice-Rectors and professors enter; ceremonies end after the hymn “Gaudeamus”. Everyone stands up for the entrance and departure of the procession.
“Gaudeamus” is sung during academic events. First, third and fourth verse are sung during ceremonies and the second verse as a farewell to a university member.
Tallinn University follows an old academic tradition by which approval is expressed by feet-shuffling instead of clapping hands.
