How Liberal Arts in Social Sciences at Tallinn University Stands Out

What makes the Liberal Arts in Social Sciences program unique compared to more traditional degrees?
This program definitely does stand out, since it covers so many fields of study. I believe that studying it as a Bachelor student gives you an advantage of gaining competence and core knowledge in multiple areas. Modern world keeps changing and developing and studying an interdisciplinary degree helps you stay flexible and adjust fast to the changes on a job market.
How do you combine subjects like sociology, psychology, and politics in your studies?
It is really easy actually and it makes a lot of sense to combine these disciplines, since they are closely interconnected anyway. Many topics and theories that I鈥檝e studied at those courses resonate and depend on each other. For example, you won鈥檛 be able to make a good politician without understanding human behavior and the structure of society.
What kinds of creative or analytical projects have you worked on so far?
I鈥檝e had a lot of practical group work assignments during my studies and I liked them a lot, because they helped understand and memorize study material better and apply theory to real life. Together with my classmates we worked on such projects as analyzing political campaigns and PR cases, drafting an application for an EU-funded project, practicing ethnographic research or leading a mock-up public sector organization.
How has the program helped you find your academic or career interests?
It definitely helped me better understand what I like and don鈥檛 like. Now I think that I will pursue a different career than what I was considering while applying for my Bachelor鈥檚. So, I am glad that I could explore different options within social sciences rather than only studying something I鈥檓 not going to continue with.
What advice would you give a student who鈥檚 curious about multiple disciplines?
I would definitely recommend applying to this program and gaining practical experience in the fields of your interest, either during your academic activities or outside of university. I think taking an interdisciplinary program would let you consider more opportunities for a career in the future and make you a wide-skilled specialist.
