The 13th Tallinn Summer School starts on July 9th聽
Tallinn University鈥檚 international summer school takes place from July 9th to July 27th, the programme includes 18 courses.
The registration is still open for some of the courses, but around 340 people from almost 60 countries will be taking part in the summer school programme. In addition to Estonia itself, Russia, United Kingdom, Germany, South Korea and the Netherlands are the countries represented with the highest number of participants.
Tallinn Summer School鈥檚 programme includes language courses, creative workshops and various courses in humanities and social sciences and educational sciences. Among the most popular courses are Estonian, Russian and English languages, but also 鈥淒esign of Serious Games鈥 and 鈥淚ntroduction to Canine Cognition, Behaviour and Human-Animal Interactions鈥.
The most popular course is traditionally the Estonian language course with more than 60 participants. For the second time the programme includes the gamification workshop which starts on July 16th. Gamification is the use of game design elements or creating game-like emotions in non-gaming environment. Gamification is widely used in marketing and it is getting more popular in other fields including education.
In 2018 there are several new courses in the programme. Tallinn University has partnered with the Norwegian Centre of Anthrozoology and the Estonian Association of Assistance and Therapy Dogs to organise the course 鈥淚ntroduction to Canine Cognition, Behaviour and Human-Animal Interactions鈥. The course programme is designed to equip students with the knowledge to understand what and how dogs communicate with each other, and how to interpret their behaviour whilst interacting with humans.
Another new course 鈥淓ducational Innovation: What is Behind the PISA Results鈥 aims to create opportunities to critically analyse contemporary educational reforms on individual, organisation and system level taking into consideration the context of local educational policy and socio-cultural realities in order to promote knowledge creation and educational innovation.
