A panel discussion on transforming education to prepare all students for a successful future.

5:30pm – 6:00pm Reception (Astra building 1st floor atrium)
6:00pm - 7:30pm Program (auditorium Maximum, room A-002)

The Covid-19 pandemic revealed the challenges and limitations of education systems around the world to prepare all students for the future, including historically and systematically marginalized students. In response, education systems are focused on transformation – first by examining the purpose of education and then by exploring the mechanisms available to meet that purpose including curricular content, the teaching of complex competencies, social emotional learning, and centering education around student voice and agency.

COVID also re-shaped the education landscape, placing technology at the forefront as systems around the world raced to ensure students had access to devices both within and outside the classroom. Training educators to utilize these devices in ways that enhance teaching and learning and prepare students with
the skills for life and work is critical. Beyond technology, it is important to understand how learning ecosystems, including learning in school, online, and anywhere within the community, can be assessed, valued, and accessed by all students.

Join us to discuss how Estonia and other systems around the world are addressing a transformation agenda and shaping the future of education.

This Public Forum is held in conjunction with the GCEN Estonia Symposium on October 17 – 20, 2022 and is hosted by the Tallinn University.

Launched in May 2012, the Global Cities Education Network (GCEN), an initiative of Digital Promise, is an international learning community of city school systems dedicated to identifying common, highpriority problems of policy and practice and pooling their knowledge with international research on “best practices” to craft effective, practical solutions that can be adapted to varying cultural and political contexts.

The Network consists of teams of high-ranking officials and other key stakeholders in the Network cities including Hangzhou, Hong Kong, Melbourne, Shanghai, and Singapore in the Asia-Pacific region; and Dallas, Denver, Lexington, and Surrey in North America.
