Borders in Film #1. "In the Crosswind" (2014)

The Eur-Asian Border Lab team is happy to introduce a new series of events that invites discussion around borders in relation to art: borders in films. The series will begin with the first screening on Friday 27th September at 18:30 in M-213 at Tallinn University with "In the Crosswind" (2014) by Estonian director Martti Helde.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A session with special guests: Dr. Emilia Diana Popa, a research fellow at Tallinn University specialized in film and cultural memory, and Nikolai Osta拧ov, a member of the team at Vabamu Museum of Occupations and Freedom.

The film screening is free, in English, and open to everyone (including non-TLU students and staff).

Synopsis:

In 1941, Soviet occupiers removed tens of thousands of people in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania from their homes and sent them to prison camps or to Siberia. This is the story of Erna, an Estonian woman, and her young daughter, who struggle to find her way home after facing these horrific events. [source: MUBI]
