


Summer School of Sign Language Studies
Berlin, 21-25. July 2025
The aim of the Summer School of Sign Language Studies is to provide an opportunity for advanced students and early career researchers to become acquainted with the range of current developments in sign language studies and to promote the academic discourse in International Sign Language.
Lectures will cover di铿erent methodological approaches in sign language studies, such as 铿乺st and second language acquisition, language description and documentation, language typology, sociolinguistics, interpreting / translation studies and sign language ethnography, deaf studies, etc. There will also be three evening presentations, a panel discussion, four poster sessions and a day excursion.
The registration deadline for the Summer School is 15 May 2025.

Call for Papers
Poster sessions at the International Summer School of Sign Language Studies are planned for four days (2 hours each). The official languages are International Sign Language and written English.
The topic should cover a field of sign language studies, i.e. sign language linguistics, Deaf studies, sign language interpreting, sign language teaching, or other areas that interface with sign languages and Deaf Communities.
The abstract should not exceed 300 words (in English) or 3 film minutes (in International Sign Language through a link). Each abstract should include the following information: research question, research methodology and research results/discussion. Accepted abstracts will be published. Please use your name in the file name.
Please send your submission to summerschool.sign.lang.stud@gmail.com by 15. May (in case of a video abstract via or by providing your Youtube-link in the application form. Authors will be notified by 20. May 2025.
