As an acknowledged expert in the field of welfare, Nic Marks uses
innovative methods to determine the markers of individuals´ welfare within
public environment. By using statistical and analytical tools, he is
capable of interpreting the welfare markers in a way that these become
impressive to politicians, officials, as well as to the wider public. In
his TU lecture Marks introduces the ways of measuring social welfare.
Nic Marks is a founding member of the New Economics Foundation. He has
studied the welfare markers of societies since 2001, offering a new
approach to the traditional economic growth based approach. He has been
leading the compiling of the "Happy planet index" and has actively
explained the practical output of his research to politicians,
practitioners and the public.
Studia Generalia is a series of public lectures that include the public
lectures of Tallinn University lecturers, researchers and visiting
lecturers. People crossing the university´s threshold have a possibility
to express their opinion on current issues of the society under the
guidance of authoritative thinkers. The public lectures take place once or
twice a month. People interested in the topic either from Tallinn
University or outside are welcome to listen and discuss in the lectures.
The lectures that have already taken place can be seen at Tallinn Virtual
University.
