Ryszard M. Machnikowski, associate professor at the Faculty of
International and Political Studies, Łódź University (Poland), will
deliver two lectures on terrorism on 8 May.The first lecture entitled "The
Evolution of the Terrorist Threat in the 21st Century" will be held in
auditorium A224 (Astra building) at 10:30.The lecture will focus on
theoretical problems of grasping the phenomenon of terrorism (defining and
understanding terrorism), perseverance of terrorist threat and its changing
nature and scope as well as psychological, social, economic and political
surroundings of this contemporary phenomenon and links to other forms of
political violence.The second lecture entitled "War on Terror or Combating
Terrorists? States’ Responses – Problems, Methods and Results" will be
held in auditorium A224 (Astra building) at 13:00.The lecture will focus on
the variety of state’s responses to terrorist threats, dilemmas and
obstacles to tackle the problem of counter-terrorism properly.Ryszard M.
Machnikowski (1968) is an associate professor at the Faculty of
International and Political Studies, Łódź University, Poland. His main
areas of interests: global terrorism and political violence, international
security, sociology of science, globalisation processes. Author of three
books and approx. 40 scientific articles and research reports.
