20 September from 2 p.m to 3 p.m, Dr Gijs Schumacher will be giving a public lecture "Democracy at Risk" as part of the Democracy Day program in room A-303.

It has been predicted that democracy will be our form of government until the end of days. Still, democracy is under constant threat from Big Men and their ambitions, special interests and – paradoxically – the electorate itself. To recognize and potentially counter such threats this lecture analyzes some of the mechanisms underlying democratic politics.

Dr. Gijs Schumacher is an assistant professor at the University of Southern Denmark. His research interests are decision-making and institutions and he has published on party organization, elite framing, mass-elite linkages, representation, party change, the radical right, social democratic parties and welfare policies in various international peer-reviewed journals.
