Professor Lawrence Venuti, from Temple University, will give a public
lecture entitled "Genealogies of Translation Theory: Locke and
Schleiermacher". The lecture will be held in auditorium M-218 (TU Mare
building, Uus-Sadama 5) on Thursday, 24 May at 16:30.Professor Venuti is
one of the most intriguing and most often quoted authors of
translation studies in the past decade. In addition to being the author of
the well-known monographs “The Translator's Invisibility: A History of
Translation” (1995) and “The Scandals of Translation: Towards an Ethics
of Difference” (1998), he is the editor of an internationally renowned
anthology “The Translation Studies Reader” that is often used as a
textbook.Professor Venuti is visiting Estonia as the keynote speaker of the
international conference entitled "Translating Power, Empowering
Translation: Itineraries in Translation History" to be held at Tallinn
