Professor Hämeen-Anttila, from the University of Helsinki, will deliver a
public lecture entitled "From Deserts to Palaces: Classical Arabic
Literature". The lecture will be held in auditorium M-328 (TU Mare
building, Uus-Sadama 5) on Wednesday, 30 May at 16:00.The lecture will deal
with the origins of classical Arabic literature from 500 BC until 1800 AD;
it will also look at the connections with Persian and Western literature
that have influenced Arabic literature and, at the same time, have also
been affected by Arabic literature. Special attention will be paid to wine
and love poems.Professor Hämeen-Anttila is a specialist in classical
Arabic literature at the University of Helsinki.The lecture will be
