Ben Scott is Policy Advisor for Innovation to Hillary Clinton, US
Secretary of State. He will deliver a public lecture on the 21st
Century Statecraft Agenda in the Tallinn University Institute of
Communication (Tartu Rd 13) on Tuesday, October 25 at 10:00. This agenda
focuses on technology policy, social media and development.Ben Scott is
Policy Advisor for Innovation at the US Department of State, where he works
at the interface of technology and foreign policy. Within a small
team of advisors to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, he assists in the
stewardship of the 21st Century Statecraft agenda with a focus on
technology policy, social media and development. Prior to joining the State
Department, he led the Washington office of the Free Press for six years,
the largest non-profit organization in the US dealing exclusively with
media and communications policy. As policy director for Free Press, he
headed a team of lawyers, researchers, and advocates, and directed a public
interest policy agenda to expand affordable access to an open Internet and
to foster more public service journalism. He was frequently called before
the US Congress as an expert witness. Before joining the Free Press, he
worked as a legislative aide handling telecommunications policy for the
then-Rep. Bernie Sanders (Ind.-Vt.) in the U.S. House of Representatives.He
holds a PhD in communications from the University of Illinois. He is the
author of several scholarly articles on American journalism history and the
politics of media regulation as well as co-editor of two books ("The Future
of Media" and "Our Unfree Press: 100 Years of Radical Media Criticism").For
