The first performance evening of the series by Tallinn University Press and Theatrum is on 31 January at 8 p.m.

Tallinn University Press and Theatrum collaborate in bringing a performance series to the audiences on three evenings - 31 January, 15 February and 7 March at 8 p.m. - with Theatrum actors reciting the first part of Dante Alighieri's (1265-1321) epic poem "Divine Comedy" (Divina Commedia), "Hell". 11 songs will be recited each night. In order to help the audience with finding their way to Hell and back, Tallinn University professors 脺lar Ploom, Marek Tamm, and the Ambassador of Italy Marco Clemente will be commenting and giving short lectures throughout the series.

On the surface, the poem describes Dante's travels through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven; but at a deeper level, it represents allegorically the soul's journey towards God. At this deeper level, Dante draws on medieval Christian theology and philosophy, especially Thomistic philosophy and the Summa Theologica of Thomas Aquinas.

The performance series takes place in Kloostri Ait, Vene St 14, Tallinn.

The series is funded by the Cultural Endowment of Estonia and the Estonian Ministry of Culture.
