On November 25, the TU Institute of Humanities Department of Middle-Eastern
and Asian Studies is organizing a public discussion to discuss  the
fact that this year’s Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to Liu Xiaobo, who is
sentenced to prison for “inciting subversion of state power". The
discussion takes place in room M-218 (Uus-Sadama 5) at 18.00 and is led by
Frank Kraushaar, professor of Chinese literature in TU Institute of
Humanities. The discussion will be held in English. Liu Xiaobo is a Chinese
literary critic, writer, professor, and human rights activist who called
for democratic reforms and the end of communist one-party rule in Mainland
China. He is currently incarcerated as a political prisoner in the People's
Republic of China.Questions to be raised at the discussion:Was it correct
to award the Prize to Liu?Was the Peace Prize for Liu also a Peace Prize
for China? Is it ethical to develop political relations with China? How long
can China avoid the topic of human rights and democracy?Everybody is
invited to listen and speak their mind!Additional Information:Martti
