TU and Samsung help develop digital competences of vocational students
On 26 May 2016, the Samsung Digi Pass programme started. The aim of the programme is to help young people enter the job market by developing the competences that employers expect from them. The participants will receive unique digital passports, which give the future employer an overview of the digital and social competences of the individual.
On 26 May 2016, the Samsung Digi Pass programme started. The aim of the programme is to help young people enter the job market by developing the competences that employers expect from them. The participants will receive unique digital passports, which give the future employer an overview of the digital and social competences of the individual.
30 vocational students will qualify for the programme. They will be supervised by Tallinn University researchers, who teach them digital competences, such as creating and sharing web content, using new technology for communication, and assessing data. In addition, their social skills will be developed, which will help them along in many areas 鈥 teamwork, problem solving, communication, creativity, decision-making, etc.
Mart Laanpere, leader of the programme in Estonia, and the head of the selection committee says that the most innovative and creative young people with a devotion to their specialities will be selected for the programme. 鈥淓ach team consist of three members, who should have different backgrounds, skills, specialities and experiences from their vocational studies. They should have a plan for changing their studies, internship or future jobs with the help of technology,鈥 he added. 鈥淭he training programme, which starts in August, and the support of the mentors will help the participants move from their idea to a working digital prototype, which they will present at the final event in November. In addition, different trainings will help them compile an e-portfolio displaying their professional, social and digital competences to help them in the job market.鈥
The team with the best project will be sent to Samsung, one of the leading technology corporation in the world, for a week-long internship and to a leading company in Estonia for three weeks.
鈥淵oung people often face the problem that their lack of experience denies them a job, but they are not able to gain experience without a job. This vicious circle greatly slows the arrival of young people in the job market,鈥 said L墨ga Bite, CSR project manager of Samsung Electronics Baltics. 鈥淭hat is why Samsung and Estonian educational researchers created this programme to help young people escape this circle by enhancing their competences and raising their value in the eyes of future employers,鈥 she added.
