On this Friday, 18 November at 16, the Tallinn University Academic Library Gallery will be opened with the jubilee exhibition of Jüri Arrak. The maestro of Estonian modern art will be celebrating his 80th birthday with the exhibition “Graphics and Ex Libris from the ANK era” (curated by Harry Liivrand).

The exhibition will show the legendary printmaking works from 1962-1967 from Mart Lepp’s private collection, and ex libris made in linocut during 1961-1967 from the Tallinn University Academic Library Baltika collection. The exhibition is supplemented by a catalogue.

The Tallinn University Academic Library, the former Research Academy Library, with its modernist architecture from 1963 has an open foyer resplendent with natural light, which has hosted art exhibitions for over half a century. Thus, being a gallery has become part of the area’s identity. The opening of Jüri Arrak’s jubilee exhibition will also celebrate the moment when the foyer officially becomes a gallery.

The Baltika cultural history collection is an extremely valuable section of the library, with a considerable art collection. As the latter is mainly made up of graphics and photos, the following exhibitions of professional artists will also emphasise these genres.

The opening exhibition of the Tallinn University Academic Library Gallery will be open until 6 January 2017.
