Tiit Land to Head Universities Estonia

Tiit Land will become the next president of Universities Estonia. His presidency will start on April 7th and he will be replacing Volli Kalm, rector of University of Tartu and the previous president since 2013.

Tiit Land will become the next president of Universities Estonia. His presidency will start on April 7th and he will be replacing Volli Kalm, rector of University of Tartu and the previous president since 2013.

The goal of Universities of Estonia is to help promote education, science and culture in Estonia, and be an active contributor in European higher education politics. 鈥淭o achieve this, we wish to continue our partnership with the state in discussing and solving important problems. For example, in the next few years our universities will face new challenges regarding state funding of higher education and research,鈥 explains Land.

The articles of association spec颅ify that the Universities Estonia may include the founding members and those Estonian universities, which provide bachelors, masters and doctoral programmes in at least three different fields of research. Other preconditions include carrying out continuous and success颅ful research and defences of doctoral theses.

The current members of the Board are the rectors of public universities: Mart Kalm from the Estonian Academy of Arts, Peep Lassmann from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, Mait Klaassen from the Estonian University of Life Sciences, Tiit Land from Tallinn University, Andres Keevallik from Tallinn University of Technology and Volli Kalm from the University of Tartu.
