Tallinn University Selects Two New Recipients of Honorary Doctoral Degrees

Tallinn University awarded two new Honorary Doctoral degrees during the
Senate session at the end of January. The two recipients were Professor
Marie-Jose Gaillard-Lemdahl and Professor Barbro Grevholm.Marie-Jose
Gaillard-Lemdahl is Professor of Botany-Vegetation history/Palaeoecology at
Linnaeus University in Sweden. She has coordinated several projects on
environmental-vegetation history from the perspective of extended time
periods. Her research has applications within archaeology and presents
environmental questions, such as management of cultural landscapes,
biodiversity, and climate development. She has become one of the leading
researchers in the field of Palaeoecology in Europe. She has initiated and
managed several international and often interdisciplinary science projects
that have frequently included partners from Estonia. Professor
Gaillard-Lemdahl is also a research coordinator for Environmental Science
at Linnaeus University. In 2011, she was elected as a Member of the Royal
Swedish Academy of Sciences.Barbro Grevholm is a Professor in Mathematics
Education at the University of Adger in Norway and Professor Emeritus in
Mathematics Education at Kristianstad University in Sweden. Professor
Grevholm is one of the leading researchers of Mathematics Education in
Nordic countries. She has been the author or editor of 21 books during the
period 2002–2011 and has published many scientific articles, also in
cooperation with Estonian authors. Professor Grevholm is or has been a
member of the editorial board of some of the world's leading science
magazines for mathematics education (Educational Studies in Mathematics,
Journal of Mathematics Teacher Education, NOMAD, Nordic Studies in
Mathematics Education). She has had connections with Estonia and Tallinn
University since the 1990s. She has been the plenary speaker at several
Tallinn University conferences and in 2008/2009 she was employed at Tallinn
University as a visiting professor during her sabbatical.The new honorary
doctorates will be awarded on October 19, 2012.
