Success of Tallinn University’s Student Films This Summer
Short movies by the students, alumni and faculty of Baltic Film and Media School have been successful this summer in festivals, both in Estonia and abroad.
Short movies by the students, alumni and faculty of Baltic Film and Media School have been successful this summer in festivals, both in Estonia and abroad.
Blue Sea Film Festival took place in Rauma, Finland on 23-25 August with 51 movies competing from 6 countries by the Baltic Sea. The first prize from the international Baltic Herring short movie competition went to the movie „Olmeheidutus“ by Hardi Volmer, well-known director and docent of BFM. Third prize in the same category went to „Foto“, a movie by Jan-Erik Nõgisto and Katrin Maimik, alumna of BFM. In the student movie category, the third prize was shared by the BFM students’ movies „Last Call“ by Kaur Kokk and „Kevad à la carte“ by Doris Tääker. Best actress award went to Maiken Schmidt for her role at Doris Tääker’s movie "Kevad à la carte".
Rojal Film Festival took place in the end of July in Latvia. Three short movies were chosen from three Baltic states. Anna Hints’ (BFM) movie „Vaba maa“ won the Latvian Grand Prix, as well as Public’s Choice Award. In addition to „Vaba maa“, the movie „Kolm“ (by Eva Kübar) and „Distants“ (by Janno Jürgens) were also chosen for the festival.
Theodor Luts Film Days short movie competition took place on 17 August in Palamuse. 19 movies were submitted. Anna Hints’ (BFM) short movie „Vaba maa“ won the best short movie title.
