Russia values the higher education given in Estonia highly

The Russian information agency Interfax has, for the first time, published university rankings with all of the largest universities in Estonia represented among the TOP 200 of CIS, Georgia and the Baltic states. Tallinn University ranks between 40-50.

The Russian information agency Interfax has, for the first time, published university rankings with all of the largest universities in Estonia represented among the TOP 200 of CIS, Georgia and the Baltic states. Tallinn University ranks between 40-50.

The University of Tartu is sharing the 9th and 10th positions in the 鈥減an-regional鈥 rankings of Interfax, the position of the University of Tallinn is in the range from 40 to 50, the position of the Tallinn University of Technology in the range from 51 to 60, and the position of the Estonian University of Life Sciences in the range from 151 to 200. The first place in the rankings is held by the Lomonosov Moscow State University.

The fact that the Juri Lotman and Zara Mints' archive-library is located in Tallinn University makes Tallinn Universiy an attractive research institution for the Russian humanities researchers. Semioticians and humanities researchers come from Russia's top universities every year to do research work in the Lotman archives. The Tallinn University  has developed a longstanding collaboration with the Russian State University for the Humanities, and the  is in the process of preparing a joint curriculum with the Ural Federal University. Tallinn University's popularity is also growing among Russian students, as two groups of students from Russian universities have participated in the Tallinn University International Summer School.

Tallinn University collaborates with the Moscow State University, Russian State University for the Humanities, Saint Petersburg State University, Moscow Higher School of Economics, Don State Technical University, Ural Federal University, Tyumen State University, etc. The cooperation in research and studies with Russia's top universities is important for Tallinn University.

The rankings are put together taking into account the performance of universities in three areas: teaching (50% of the total mark), research (30%) and international activities (20%).

Interfax, which has been operating since the beginning of the 1990s, is the largest information agency in CIS and mainly concentrates on mediating politics and economy news. In addition to the 鈥減an-regional鈥 rankings published for the first time this year, Interfax also compiles annual rankings of Russian universities ().
