Rector proposed new leaders to the academic units

Rector Tiit Land asked six employees of Tallinn University to accept the position of director of the soon-to-be formed academic units.

The rector asked Kristi Vinter, director of the Institute of Educational Sciences to take responsibility of the Education Innovation focus field. The institute in charge of Digital and Media Culture was offered to Katrin Saks, director of the Baltic Film and Media School, while Peeter Normak, director of the Institute of Informatics, was asked to head the Digital Technologies focus field.

Tiit Land asked T玫nu Viik, director of the Estonian Institute of Humanities, to become the head of the Cultural Competences focus field and Ruth Shimmo, director of the Institute of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, to become the leader of the Healthy and Sustainable Lifestyle focus field. The Open Organisation of Governance and Society was offered to Anu Toots, director of the Institute of Political Science and Governance.

鈥淭he selection was based on the need to ensure the University鈥檚 goals are met and the focus fields have a sustainable and balanced development, led by people with a vision of starting a new unit as well as the support from the academic society,鈥 Land explained.

The proposals are preliminary, as the right to name the new leaders will come with the new TU Statute, which declares that the leaders of the institutes that start on September 1st 2015, will be named by the rector and stay in this position until August 31st, 2017. The Senate will discuss the new Statute on March 30th.
