Records Broken at National Research Papers Competition

The national competition for students’ research papers received 566 entries, which stands for a new record. Students from Tallinn University submitted sixty of these papers.

All Estonian public universities as well as 18 foreign universities participated. Altogether, students from 34 universities submitted papers.

The most popular category was social sciences and culture with 258 participants, followed by natural sciences and technology with 182, biological and environmental sciences with 85 and health sciences with 41 papers.

Terje Tuisk, head of the Department of Science Communication at the Estonian Research Council said the annually increasing number of submitted papers proves the necessity for such competitions. “A sustainable national system for promoting young researchers motivates young people to be active in the research and development sphere, which in turn offers vital progeny to our research sphere,” she elaborated.

The results of the competition will be determined by a 16-member jury on December 17th.

The national competition for research papers is a well-established tradition happening since 1991. The competition is hosted by the Estonian Research Council and funded by the Ministry of Education and Research.
