The Tallinn University Institute of International Social Studies announced a pan-European photo competition to young people from ages 18 to 30, as part of their “EXCEPT- Social Exclusion of Youth in Europe: Cumulative Disadvantage, Coping Strategies, Effective Policies and Transfer” project.
The aim of the competition is to display young peoples’ own experiences in becoming an adult. What does becoming an adult mean to young people? Is it to do with getting a job, paying their own bills, having more freedom, being more independent in their decisions, or something else? What dreams and fears accompany becoming an adult?
Anyone between 18-30 can participate by uploading their photo to the EXCEPT website (), or by sending it to except.photo@gmail.com. Please add a short description that expresses the meaning of the photo, the experience of becoming an adult by either the author or the person on the picture, and info about the author (name, e-mail address, age and country).
The top three will receive 250, 200, and 100 Euros as prize money. The thirty best photos will be displayed at exhibitions in all EXCEPT partnering countries, as well as the final conference in Brussels.
You can submit your pictures from 4 April to 1 July, 2016. After that, a panel consisting of photographers, youth organisation representatives and researchers will choose the top 30 pictures that will participate in stage two of the competition from 4-15 July. The photos will be uploaded to the EXCEPT website and their Facebook page. There will be a public voting on Facebook, based on the amount of likes. At the same time, the jury will also pick their favourites. The winners will be announced on July 18.
More info on the competition and prizes can be found at the EXCEPT website:
