New Rankings Confirm Tallinn University鈥檚 High Level Research
One of the most-widely read university rankings in the world QS World University Rankings, published new rankings for 2021. According to the new results, the research carried out at Tallinn University is improving every year.
In the Research Intensity category, Tallinn University is among the very high research intensity distribution section, which is the highest possible position in this category. According to Katrin Niglas, Vice-Rector for Research, the recent ranking shows that we are definitely moving towards the goal we have set on the development plan of the university.
鈥淚 am especially glad that we have remarkably improved our position in the citation category. New rankings show that references to our researcher鈥檚 articles is on the rise,鈥 said Vice-Rector Niglas. In the 2019 rankings, the citation indicator was 15.4, today it has increased to 38.9. The current ranking takes into account research articles published in 2014鈥2018 and references between 2014鈥2019. "On the one hand, this indicator reflects the growth of the quality and impact of our research, but on the other hand, it gives us enthusiasm and courage to set goals for even higher achievements," the Vice-Rector for Research added.
Tallinn University鈥檚 overall position is the same as last year 鈥 801鈥1000. According to the WHED higher education database, there are a total of 19,000 universities in the world, of which only the top 1002 higher education institutions have access to QS rankings in 2021.
Next to the THE (Times Higher Education) rankings, QS World Rankings is one of the most prestigious university rankings in the world. The ranking is compiled by the consulting firm Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), which takes into account six indicators when compiling the rankings: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty/Student Ratio, Citations per faculty, International Faculty Ratio, International Student Ratio. Tallinn University has been included in the QS rankings since 2019.
