The Laureates of Tallinn University Literary Award Are Named

Tallinn University Literary Awards were given to Andrei Ivanov, Heli Allik
and Lauri Kitsnik.Andrei Ivanov won the TU Literary Award in the category
of an original piece of fiction for his short stories "Minu Taani onuke"
and "Tuhk". Andrei Ivanov is an alumnus of the TU Institute of Slavonic
Languages and Cultures who lives in Estonia and is a renowned writer in the
Russian language. Both short stories were published in volume 8/9 of
"Loomingu Raamatukogu", translated into Estonian by Ilona Martson and Jaan
Ross. Ivanov's autobiographic short stories look at the life of the last
Soviet generation in exile and also display pictures of earlier life in
Estonia.In the category of a translation of fiction, the laureates are Heli
Allik, editor-in-chief of Tallinn University Press for the translation of
Luis-Ferdinand C茅line鈥檚 novel "Voyage au bout de la nuit" into Estonian
("Reis 枚枚 l玫ppu") and alumnus Lauri Kistnik for the translations of
Tanikawa Shuntaro's collection of poems (in Estonian "S玫nade asjatu
flirt") and Fuji Sadakazu's collection of poems (in Estonian "Titt maksab
k盲tte"). Heli Allik was recognised for translating one of the most
significant French authors of the 20th century, whose use of language is
very innovative and whose texts are influential but also very complicated.
Lauri Kitsnik has been translating contemporary Japanese poetry for quite
some time, but these published collections are remarkable achievements,
compared to other poetry translations of 2010.The laureates were elected by
a jury of five people: Rein Raud, Kalju Kruusa, Daniele Monticelli, Linda
Kaljundi and Tiiu Reimo.Tallinn University has given literary awards since
2007 in order to recognise Estonian authors who are Tallinn University
alumni, teachers or students.
