The Laureates of the Tallinn University Literary Award Are Jürgen Rooste and Märt Väljataga

Tallinn University Literary Awards were given to Jürgen Rooste and Märt
Väljataga.Jürgen Rooste won the Tallinn University Literary Award in the
category of an original piece of fiction for his collection of poems
"Kuidas tappa laulurästikut". Jürgen Rooste, who has won several prizes
for his work in Estonia, is an alumnus of the Tallinn University
Institute of Estonian Language and Culture.In the category of a translation
of fiction, the laureate is Märt Väljataga for the translation of
Vladimir Nabokov’s short stories "The Vane Sisters" and "Signs and
Symbols" into Estonian ("Õed Vane'id" and "Märgid ja sümbolid"). These
short stories were an extraordinary challenge for the translator but Märt
Väljataga found unique solutions for conveying Nabokov's language. Märt
Väljataga has been a prolific translator for years, his works include
Wystan Hugh Auden, Charles Baudelaire, Bertold Brecht, William Blake,
William Wordsworth and Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Märt Väljataga is a
lecturer at the Tallinn University Estonian Institute of Humanities.The
laureates were elected by a jury of six people: Tiit Land, Rector of
Tallinn University, Ülar Ploom, Professor at Tallinn University, Eneken
Laanes, Senior Researcher at Under and Tuglas Literature Centre, Vahur
Afanasjev, writer and Public Relations Manager at Tallinn University
Academic Library, Aile Möldre, Associate Professor at the Tallinn
University Institute of Information Sciences, and Heli Allik, a laureate of
2011, Editor-in-chief at Tallinn University Press.Tallinn University has
given literary awards since 2007 in order to recognise Estonian authors who
are Tallinn University alumni, teachers or students. The previous laureates
are Hasso Krull and Nadežda Ptšelovodova (2007), Maarja Kangro and Arvo
Valton (2008), Mari Tarvas and Maarja Kangro (2009), Mart Kangur and Kalju
Kruusa (2010), Andrei Ivanov, Heli Allik and Lauri Kitsnik (2011).For
