TU Estonian Institute for Population Studies hosts the family and demography researchers from the leading demography centres of Europe from Wednesday to Friday, 8-10 January.
The researchers meeting in Tallinn University take part in the research project 鈥淔amiliesAndSocieties鈥 that incorporates the entire Europe, and are the representatives of several international civil society organisations from 14 countries. "There has not been a demography researcher representation of this multi- and magnitude in Estonia before. This gives us credit, as well as a chance, because international comparisons help give meaning to the Estonian experience better and improve the expertise here when evaluating the political influences," says Luule Sakkeus, director of the .
The four-year-project focuses on comparing and researching the diversity of family types, ties and ways of life, and the changes that take place in them. Special attention is given to the research of social environment and politics as influencial factors in family relations, and advocating innovative political solutions. Two new databases will be created during the project, numerous research articles will be published, and a contibution to the knowledge-based politics will be made. The project is coordinated by Livia Sz. Ol谩h, docent in the Stockholm University Demography Unit.
The project is funded by the 7th frame programme of the European Union.
