The new science and study building will be ready for occupancy during the
first half of 2012.When completed, this project will provide a six-floor

Informatics, Institute of Ecology, Institute of Psychology, Institute of
Political Science and Governance, and the Institute of International and
Social Studies. It will also contain facilities for the Student Body,
career counsellors, the Knowledge Transfer Centre, Tallinn University Press
and the Academic Library. Several large lecture halls and a new caf茅 will
also be incorporated in the new building.According to Tallinn University
Rector Rein Raud, the university has seen significant internal growth in a
very short space of time and the completion of the new Silva building
extension will provide visible proof of the university鈥檚 rapid growth.
"The new Silva building is being rebuilt in accordance with contemporary
standards, and will give most of the researchers of our university a
working environment that is equal to any university located in any one of
the European capitals."As a result of the extension, more than 12,000
square metres of space will be added for research and development
activities. The full cost of the project is almost 12 million Euros, of
which 6.4 million Euros is provided from the European Union Structural
Funds, provided for "improving the competitiveness of Estonian Research
& Development through research programmes and modernisation of higher
education and Research & Development institutions"; and the remainder
is provided by the university's own contribution. The building's
