CITU Signed a Co-Operation Agreement with Shanghai University of Finance
Last week, Professor Tiit Land, Rector of Tallinn University and the President of the Shanghai University of Finance Professor Fan Liming signed a co-operation agreement. Its aim is to promote together the activities of the Confucius Institute at Tallinn University (CITU).
鈥淚n addition to cooperation in teaching Chinese language and introducing Chinese culture, both sides agreed to seek additional opportunities for more broad-based cooperation in order to implement university staff mobility programmes and joint research projects. The main academic fields of SUFE are in social sciences, humanities and natural sciences, as well as the economics and financial sector鈥 Mikk Kasesalk, Director of the Confucius Institute, commented on the agreement.
Language training and weekly lectures make up only a part of the Institute鈥檚 programme. The Institute has plans to organize both popular science and extracurricular academic lectures, film nights, celebrate Chinese national holidays and develop cultural and educational co-operation between Estonia and the People麓s Republic of China.
The Confucius Institute at Tallinn University operates as part of the Office of Chinese Language Council International (Hanban). There are approximately 450 Confucius Institutes operating in foreign universities throughout the world. These institutes serve as cultural centers that bring Chinese culture outside China. Confucius Institute was opened at Tallinn University in the autumn of 2010.
