Baltic's German history and culture professoriate celebrated its 1st birthday

The German history and culture in the Baltic region professor's position with the Tallinn University Institute of History was created thanks to the University's, German Ministry of Culture and Media and Embassy of Germany in Tallinn's joint efforts. This has been an extraordinary collaboration, since Germany is the only foreign country so far to create a professoriate in Estonia and Tallinn University.

On November 19 German and Estonian partners celebrated the first anniversary of the professoriate. Sabine Deres, an official of the German Ministry of Culture and Media said in the opening speech that the position of the professor of German history and culture of the Baltic region was created to capture the German cultural legacy that has developed outside the German border. Throughout history, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania have had centuries- long contact with German history and German literature has developed in these areas as well. It is expected that the professor of German history and culture of the Baltic region would also act as a regional co-partner and professional consultant and to further scientific communication.
