Public Lecture at Tallinn University: Teaching and Research in Ukrainian Universities During the War

On April 15, from 14:00 to 15:30, Tallinn University (room T-223, with the option to participate via Zoom) will host a public lecture where faculty members from the Faculty of Geography at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv will discuss how teaching and research are organized in Ukrainian universities under wartime conditions.

The public lecture will be given by:

 

  • Serhii Zapototskyi â€“ Dean of the Faculty of Geography of Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Professor of the Department of Economic and Social Geography, Doctor of Geography. Research interests: socio-economic geography, regional economy and politics, regional and sectoral competitiveness, urban planning, construction industry, real estate, recreation and tourism markets.
  • Viktoriia Zapototska â€“ Associate Professor of the Department of Economic and Social Geography, Faculty of Geography, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, PhD in Geography. Research interests: real estate market, territorial and urban planning, social geography. In recent years, she has been researching real estate markets. She is an expert at the Housing Institute.
  • Diana Hryniuk â€“ PhD in Geography, lecturer at the Department of Country Studies and Tourism at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Vice President for Marketing and Communications at the Academy of Rural Development of the Union of Rural Green Tourism of Ukraine. She is a qualified tourist guide, member of the scientific communities BASEES, CEFRES. Research interests: historical tourism, rural tourism, regional geography and local history, virtual tourism and digitization of cultural heritage, military and volunteer tourism. She is interested in the routes of Memory and Heroes of Ukraine, the Chornobyl exclusion zone, gender studies, patriotic education of youth.

During the one-and-a-half-hour session, Dean Zapototskyi will discuss how teaching and research activities are organized in Ukrainian universities under challenging conditions, while Zapototska and Hryniuk will present the academic research they have conducted and the results of their studies.

This is a unique opportunity to gain insight into the current state of Ukraine’s education system and research, and to engage in discussions with field experts about the future of education and science in Ukraine.
