The image of landscape is often seen in both film and photography, but has rarely received much scholarly attention. Even less attention has been paid to it as an element binding these two art forms intricately together.
However, according to Martin Lefebvre image of landscape is an image freed from eventhood. For this reason, in my mind, image of landscape is always very similar to a still photograph. I will elaborate this observation about the relation between landscape, photography and cinema on basis of my own artistic work.
Katri Lassila is a Finnish fine art photographer and film artist, specialised in analog black and white photography and advanced techniques of silver gelatin printing. Lassila usually photographs while travelling, recently especially in Asia. In cinema her interest is in poetic short film, with emphasis on themes of landscape, water and time.
Lassila graduated from the Department of Photography, Aalto University Helsinki in 2008 and has had over 20 solo exhibits since 1999. Presently she writes her artistic doctoral thesis for the Department of Film, TV and Scenographic Arts, Aalto University, Helsinki.
