The 23rd Annual ) Conference takes place in Tallinn University on 28-31 August.

The conference brings together 678 researchers from 50 countries. The subject this year is „Values, Culture and Contexts“.

The official opening ceremony takes place on 29 August 8:45 in Tallinn University Astra Building (Hall A002), with live broadcast to rooms A222 and M218. The conference will be opened by the Minister of Education and Research, Jaak Aaviksoo, the President of EECERA, Chris Pascal, the Editor in Chief of the EECERJ magazine, Anthony Bertram from Birmingham University, Tallinn University Rector, Tiit Land, and the main organizer of the conference, Professor in Tallinn University Institute of Educational Sciences, Marika Veisson.


The keynote speakers of the conference are:

  • Marika Veisson, PhD, University of Tallinn (Estonia) - Supervisor of 9 PhD students at the Institute of Educational Sciences in Tallinn University.
    Presentation: “Values and contexts in early childhood education” (29 August at 9.30-10.30)

  • Gennadi Kravtsov, PhD - Vygotsky Institute of Psychology (Russia), Director of psychology of personality department VIP RSUH. G.G. Kravtsov is a famous specialist in methodology of cultural-historical psychology. He regularly participate in the international conferences and symposiums, devoted to the problems of cultural-historical psychology, non-classical psychology, psychology of personality etc. He has great number of publications, including international ones.
    Presentation: “Cultural Development in Ontogenesis” (29 August at 16.30 – 17.30)

  • Kathy Sylva, PhD, University of Oxford (United Kingdom) - Professor of Educational Psychology at the University of Oxford. Her research work focuses on longitudinal studies as well as randomised control trials. Kathy has carried out policy related studies on the effects of Early Childhood Education and Care on children’s development, with a particular interest in the contribution of quality to children’s outcomes. She also studies ways to support early literacy through school and home based interventions.

  • Nandita Chaudhary, PhD - Reader at the Department of Child Development, Lady Irwin College, University of Delhi (India). She has been a Fulbright scholar at the Psychology Department, Clark University, USA, during the years 1993 – 94. Nandita is currently on study leave for the Senior Fellow programme of the ICSSR for research in the area of childhood and family for two years from April, 2012 – March 2014.
    Presentation: “Culture as Context for Development of Values: Examples from Family Life in India” (30 August at 9.45 – 10.45)

  • Nóra Milotay, PhD at University of Cambridge - A senior policy officer from the European Commission, Directorate for Education and Culture. After graduating from Eötvös Loránd University, Budapest, Nóra taught for several years History and German at a secondary grammar school in Budapest, then she received her PhD in Modern European History at the University of Cambridge and worked afterwards at the Ministry of Education and Culture in the Department for EU Relations.
    Presentation: “European Policy Cooperation in the Field of Early Childhood Education and Care” (31 August at 11.45–12.45)


The conference is organized by the Department of Pre-School Pedagogy of Tallinn University Institute of Educational Sciences in co-operation with the Education and Science Ministry of Estonia and European Early Childhood Education Research Association.
