Conference SHARELIFE will be held at Tallinn University on September
1–3.The Survey of Health, Ageing and Retirement in Europe (SHARE) is a
multidisciplinary and cross-national panel database of micro data on
health, socio-economic status and social and family networks of more than
45,000 individuals aged 50 or over. SHARE has become a significant source
for monitoring existing political measures and for initiating new
ones.SHARE is coordinated internationally by Max Planck Society Munich
Center for the Economic of Aging. SHARE’s scientific power is based on
its panel design which have taken place since 2004. It is harmonized with
the U.S. Health and Retirement Study (HRS) (since 1992) and the English
Longitudinal Study of Ageing (ELSA, since 2002). Israel also participates
in the programme.In 2008 the survey’s third wave of data collection,
SHARELIFE, collected detailed retrospective life-histories in thirteen
countries. The conference organized in Tallinn on September 1–3 is
dedicated to the results of this survey.Estonia has been part of SHARE
survey since 2010; it is coordinated by Tallinn University Estonian
Institute of Population Studies who is also the co-organizer of the
conference held in Tallinn. In order to manage SHARE Estonia, a managing
committee and science council were convened in April 2011 which unite
representatives of Tallinn University, the University of Tartu, Bank of
Estonia, Ministry of Social Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Minstry of
Education and Research and the Ministry of Economic Affairs and
Communications.One of the aims of the conference is to draw attention to
the Year of Active Ageing in 2012, which marks the first possibility in
Europe to closely explore the causal relations of ageing in different
