Professor Rings provides several hints on how to gain textual and contextual knowledge
of films dealing with intercultural encounters in the context of international migration,
develop a critical knowledge of theoretical literature exploring intercultural encounters in
film and/or other narratives, and explore, synthesise and articulate cinematic images of
intercultural encounters and identity negotiations. In his lecture, Guido Rings replies to
two research questions: in how far does Le Havre blur traditional cultural boundaries,
binaries and hierarchies in its exploration of migration? And where are the limits?
Images of migration in contemporary European cinema are discussed.
