Title: How Netflix reinvented audiovisual production in small markets

Abstract: The European audiovisual industry has faced significant challenges following the rise of global platforms such as Netflix, Disney+ and HBOMax. The pressure comes on top of a number of existing challenges, which mostly follow from the fragmented structure of the European markets. In this talk, we’ll look at what makes streaming platforms so disruptive for the audiovisual industries, what makes it particularly challenging for smaller markets, and how have streamers reshaped production, financing and distribution of domestic audiovisual content. The emphasis lies on scripted content. We look at a number of relevant cases from small countries and delve into the budgetary composition of scripted drama today.
