Andris Piebalgs, the European Commissioner for Development at the
European Commission, will deliver a speech and host a panel discussion
entitled “The Future of Development Policy in the European Union” on
November 11th at 9.30–11.00 in the Tallinn Hall, Tallinn University
(Uus-Sadama 5). The European Union is the world’s largest
donor and Estonia’s contribution plays a part in this
achievement. The EU is facing some major challenges; Where to direct the
help and how to use it in the future? What are the aid priorities for
Estonia and the EU? How has the help been a success and how can it be
made even more effective? Is there enough public support for giving
aid in the present economic circumstances?The aim of the panel is to
introduce future strategies of the European Union, to find answers to
global challenges and to explore opportunities for Estonia to develop its
co-operation with the EU.Among the panelists are:- Indrek Tarand- Deputy in
the European Parliament - Marina Kaljurand- Under-secretary of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Economic and Development Affairs - Evelin
Andrespok- Estonian Roundtable for Development Cooperation, political
expert- Rainer Kattel- professor at Tallinn University of Technology-
Leif Kalev- Director of Institute of Political Science and Governance
