The book is a result of a research project “Finnish and Estonian
Education and EU New Education Policy” (“SuViKo”). The authors are
Larrissa Jõgi, Tiina Jääger, Riina Leppänen and Risto Rinne (editor
Reili Pae). The book has been written in Estonian. The Finnish version of
it was published in June by Turku University (“Suomalainen ja virolainen
koulutus ja EU:n uusi koulutuspoliitikka”).

The aim of the research was to create the contextual basis of political
changes in education since 1990 in both countries. Although the research
dealt with all levels of education, greatest attention was dedicated to
adult education.

The book shows connections between Estonian and Finnish education with
international education policy. Changes in Estonian education system have
been quick and during a shorter period than in Finland. That is why the
changes in Estonia have not included all levels of education equally
thoroughly at the same time. Finland has often been taken as an educational
role model in Estonia, but some challenges for Finnish educational system
are pointed out in the book as well.

The research project has received support from the European Regional
Development Fund, The Finnish Ministry of Education and the Estonian
Ministry of Social Affairs.

Riina Leppänen and Kirsi Klemelä from Turku University will also be
present at the book presentation on 23 September.
