Tallinn University Requirements and Procedure for the Admission to Degree Studies
- International applicants are applicants who do not have Estonian citizenship or right of permanent residence in Estonia.
- International applicants apply through the online application system DreamApply. Applicants with Estonian citizenship or right of permanent residence in Estonia apply via the online application system SAIS. All feedback as well as a study offer will be given via the online application system.
- International Admission to Tallinn University’s Bachelor’s and Master’s studies takes place once a year. Admission to Doctoral studies may take place more than once a year.
- The Vice-Rector for the study field shall establish the admission schedule in the academic calendar.
- Applications and documents are accepted during the time period announced in Tallinn University’s academic calendar.
- An applicant may submit applications to no more than two programmes during one admission period.
- The admission threshold is the minimum result for an admission exam. The maximum result of an admission exam is 100 points. If the admission exam consists of several parts, each part will be assigned a percentage of the maximum result of the admission exam.
- An applicant must present identification to be allowed to take the entrance exam. The university has the right to ask the applicant to show identification with the purpose of identity verification and take a screenshot of the applicant with the ID during entrance exams that take place via video call.
- The academic unit has the right to not allow an applicant to take the next part of the admission exam if the previous part was not completed or was not passed.
- Tallinn University has the right to terminate an application if it becomes evident that an applicant has behaved indecently during the admission process. For example, if an applicant has shown disregard for academic practice by submitting plagiarised work.
- The university shall have the right to refuse admission to student candidates for study programmes if the results of their education which was acquired in a foreign country at the previous level or stage make up less than 60% of the required maximum volume.
- An applicant’s English language proficiency needs to be at least at a B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Proof of English language proficiency needs to be valid at the beginning of studies. Please see a list of acceptable International English language tests and required scores here.
- On justified occasions, an applicant with physical or psycho-social special needs shall be entitled to adjustments to be able to pass admission exams where the absence of adjustments would, due to his/her special need, put the applicant at a disadvantage during the admission exam as compared to other applicants.
- If an applicant has not graduated from the last year of their previous level of studies at the time of the application deadline, they must submit proof of their study results issued by the institution they are studying in by the application deadline. The very latest Tallinn University can accept the applicant’s final education documents is the 1st of July.
- When submitting the required documents, country-specific requirements listed in Tallinn University’s web site are to be followed if the country-specific requirements apply to the country the applicant graduated from their previous level of studies in.
- Documents must be submitted in Estonian or English. Documents that are not in Estonian or English must be accompanied by a translation into Estonian or English, certified by the issuer, a sworn translator or notary. - An applicant whose previous level of studies was acquired in a foreign country pays an application fee of 100 euros per person for processing documents. Paying the application fee is a prerequisite for an application to be processed and must be paid by the application deadline. The application fee is non-refundable.
- The university has the right to use the study information system of Tallinn University, the Estonian Education Information System and the International Baccalaureate Information System database, request information from educational and other institutions and submit documents certifying education to the Estonian ENIC/NARIC for the purpose of assessing the qualification.
- The copies of documents and/or certified copies and or certified translations will not be returned to the applicant.
- International applicants who have successfully passed the entrance exam and meet the university’s admission requirements are notified of the (conditional) acceptance decision on a running basis. Citizens of Non-EU/EEA countries will receive their acceptance once the university has received the first semester’s tuition fee.
- Candidates who have fulfilled the admission requirements, arrived in Estonia by the required deadline, registered their arrival in the Academic Affair Office and signed the study agreement (except Doctoral students who will sign the study contract according the university’s procedure) will be matriculated.
- The university has the right to revoke the admission decision if it appears that the level of education or qualification of an applicant does not provide access to the desired level of higher education.
- The university is not liable for possible material or non-material damage arising from the revocation of an admission decision.
- Decisions related to admission can be contested by submitting an appeal to the Vice-Rector for the study field within three working days as of the publication date of the decision or the date of conduct of the proceedings. The Vice-Rector for the study field may forward the appeal for reviewing to Admission Committee for a justified proposal as to the satisfaction or exclusion of the appeal. The student candidate is informed of the decision of the Vice-Rector for the study field within five working days as of the submission of the appeal.
