Summerschool Memories: Sergio & Creative Psychotherapy '16

I participated in the Creative Psychotherapy course in July 2016 at TLÜ. The course had a good duration of 2 weeks in which the topic was presented mainly through experimentation and activities. I chose this course because I believed it was going to complement my current studies in Psychology. The subject was very interesting as it took a different approach and focused more in experimenting through the expression in art and body movement compared to the conventional therapy. Coming from an academic enviroment where cognitive/conductive psychology are taught mainly, creative psychotherapy felt to me like a fresh approach that opened another way of communicating through paintings, drawings, music and movement. I found myself thinking out of the box and sharing with the other students past experiences of my life through all the activities. This created a bonding enviroment that allowed me to understand how other cultures express emotions. Our teachers were experienced professionals and made possible through several excercises that a class full of different nationalities and backgrounds had fun and collaborate with each other. They also gave us a lot of bibliography to check and showed us real cases in which creative psychotherapy could be applied and its results. I would recommend this course to anyone interested in art, creative expression and psychology in general.
