“Hey Saqib, what’s your plan for the future?”
“Well, I haven’t finalized yet, but most probably I will purse my masters from Tallinn University, Estonia.”
“Estonia?? Where is that?”

These were the conversations that I had usually with my family members and friends during the last year after my graduation. To be honest two years ago, I did not have any idea about Estonia as well, but thanks to the internet and social media sites, we are more informed and connected to the world. Well, one day when I was scrolling Facebook I saw one suggested post by “Study in Estonia” and then I got to know about this “Small, beautiful and highly digitalized country”. Right from that day, I started reading about Estonia and got to know their education system and believe me I was shocked to see e-government facilities that they are providing with Estonian ID Card. Through Facebook search I got to know that there is a Facebook group by the name of “Study and Life in Estonia” with around 9000 members. This group was made by Pakistani students who are already studying in Estonia and with their help many Pakistani, Bangladeshi and Indian students applied and came to Estonia.
The application process was not that intensive due to a user-friendly interference of , everything was in precise order and leads towards the next step easily. I applied to and programmes at Tallinn University. I found these programmes most relevant to my previous degree, that was in Media & Communication. Communication Management was my first priority as this programme offers excellent theoretical and practical work in communication field with the specialty in intercultural communication and I am highly interested in understanding communication between dissimilar cultures, their clashes and suitable ways to resolve core issues between them.
Additionally, the best thing about this programme is which combines students and researchers from nine universities all across the Europe to learn about intercultural communication and share their knowledge and experience. I finalized my decision of pursuing my masters from Tallinn university right after my admission interview with the Head of the programme as it was an excellent conversation with highly qualified professor and we discussed about my previous education, professional experience, knowledge about this programme and future opportunities after completing this degree.
Getting visa to Estonia for students from Pakistan is one of the most difficult things as there is no Estonian Embassy in Pakistan so all the students have to go to Egypt, China, India or some other country that has an Estonian Embassy. I got my visa from Egypt and it was an exceptional journey as well.
Now I have completed my first semester and with my five months’ experience and observation, I must say that Tallinn University and Estonia delivered much more than I expected. Learning from peer-groups, highly qualified professors and multi-cultural class fellows opens up new boundaries of learning. Classmates from Finland, Turkey, Italy, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Georgia and Ukraine defiantly make it a multicultural class and discussions during the lectures helpe me to learn more about the world around me.
I must say that if you want to get international standard education in affordable cost in highly emerging European country with lots of e-governance facilities, then I would unquestionably recommend Tallinn University for higher education. Come, experience, learn and execute because there is no Plan B!
