My Journey to the e-Country: Estonia and Tallinn University

My name is Usman Omeiza Kazeem, I am from Nigeria. I study at Tallinn University. I had my first diploma in Business from Lagos State Polytechnic and I have a degree from Tai Solarin University of Education in Library and Information Science. My journey to Estonia was a Herculean task, a bumpy road that leads to a flowering green field close to a river with birds singing by its bank. The journey looks almost impossible at some point, but strong focus and perseverance kept me going. It was a bit difficult since Estonia doesn’t have an embassy in my country. I had to travel to the embassy in India for the visa application and residence permit. While arriving to Estonia an interesting experience for me as an African was adjusting to the cold weather. Wearing a winter jacket, gloves and a hat isn’t something that I am used to, but I have to adjust. As an international student in Estonia, there is always one question that you come across on the streets and even during the admission interview via Skype. The question is “Why Estonia? Why Tallinn?” The answer I always give is “Why not?” Estonia is an amazing place in the Baltics with fascinating history and charming people. It is a region with untouched wilderness and a great medieval heritage. Three months in Tallinn, I still explore the corners of the Old Town. Estonians are cool in nature and always want to know what I admire about their country. They might not start a discussion with a stranger, but this isn’t a sign of dislike. You need to take the initiative and they will come along. An Estonian man once bought me a cup of coffee when he discovered that I am an international student at Tallinn University. The choice to come to Tallinn University was born out of hours of consultation and consideration. I thought that studying Digital Library Learning MA in a digitized society is a step into the future. I liked the fact that the university has a lot of international employees and more than 50 bilateral agreements with partner universities across the globe. The lecturers at the university have a personalized approach to teaching. The fact that Tallinn University has a flexible payment plan and prioritize meeting the needs of all the students, including international students at all times, also explain why many students want to obtain their degree at Tallinn University. Also Tallinn University knows how to relax your nerves with the university’s well equipped gym and film screenings at the Baltic Film, Media, Arts and Communication School. I am happy that I made the right choice of studying here and I would be glad to see you follow the same path, but to be chosen, you must have a good educational background, because Tallinn University prioritizes quality over quantity.
